Zwischenräume
Kraków /// Krakau
Call for Papers
"Zwischenräume" are areas that – mainly due to shifts in political borders – have a different legal culture than the state to whose territory they currently belong. Kraków has been an important trading center since the Middle Ages and, as the capital of the Kingdom of Poland, developed into a melting pot of different cultural, and therefore also legal-cultural, influences. The eventful history of Poland led to repeated changes in the political and state structure of the city of Kraków, resulting in the city being assigned to different legal systems over the centuries. This led to contact between different legal cultures, which may have given rise to conflicts as well as opportunities for the formation of syntheses and the creation of innovative legal figures. Kraków is thus a legal interspace par excellence.
The conference will explore the emergence and development of this legal interspace over the centuries. Scholars from all relevant academic disciplines and qualification levels who can contribute to an exploration of this legal interspace are invited to send a brief outline of their topic (German, English) and a CV to [email protected] or [email protected] by 31 March 2025. The selected topics (notification by 30. 04. 2025) will be presented and discussed at a conference (presumably on 20/21 November 2025 in Regensburg). The finalized texts will be published in a conference proceeding (deadline: end of July 2026). Reasonably calculated travel costs are reimbursed, as are accommodation costs.
